AT&T has thankfully put an end to all the conflicting rumors on what time the iPhone 3G will officially go on sale on July 11th.  8:00AM local time is the answer that many of us have been waiting to hear – which seems much better than the oft-rumored 6:00PM start.

AT&T has also released a video with a series of tips for getting yourself "iReady’ for the launch day, with advice on how to save yourself (and their staff and everyone else in the store) a bit of time in getting the new iPhone and getting it activated and ready to go as quickly as possible.

Amongst the information and tips shared are:

  • "There’s no benefit to switching your service prior to July 11th"
  • No waiting list – first come, first served basis on the day
  • You can go to the store you plan to purchase in and get your credit check done in advance of the 11th
  • Having your account details (and probably a past bill to ensure all are available) with you if switching from another carrier / porting your phone number, will help a lot.
  • You’ll need to have a Photo ID and your social security number handy when signing up for an account
  • Backup your data – for transfer to your iPhone 3G
  • Check out the iPhone rate plans beforehand via the AT&T site:
