Apple Teaching Rogers a Lesson: Canadians Rejoice!

Apple Teaching Rogers Canada a Lesson?

If you haven’t heard already, there are some pretty cool things going on regarding Rogers and iPhone plan pricing in Canada. The rates are still unheard of in comparison to similar plans across the border in the US. Rogers still plans to r#*! their Canadian customers by charging a premium.

The current pricing plan structure has triggered a firestorm of controversy in Canada. One of my favorites is RuinediPhone.com which is taking a stand against the high prices. They even have a cool intro video up there now, you might want to check it out.

But lets get to the meat of this now… here’s what we know about the situation so far:

  1. Rogers decides to continue their history of overcharging consumers for data plans.
  2. Consumers rise up and release their anger through various vents and website petitions
  3. Apple has also diverted much of the iPhone stock that was heading to Canada… over to Europe! This means that only 10 to 20 iPhones will be available at each Rogers store for the launch on the 11th.
  4. Rogers has fired extra staff (that was just recently hired to handle the iPhone launch) due to the cut in shipment of iPhones to Rogers stores in Canada.

Wow. Apple sticking it to Rogers, you have to love that. I mean, not so fun if you’re clamoring for an iPhone on the 11th. Chances are you’ll have to camp out the night before, but you know what I mean. With the pricing plans the way they are, you won’t see me lining up to pick one up just yet.

Lets see what happens here. Could be an interesting week. One would expect that consumers and Apple have served the ball well into Rogers’ court, and we’re waiting for the return. If Rogers does nothing by July 11th… shame on them. It’s time to step up and offer Canadians comparable price plans in comparison to our friends in the US.

Note: This info is coming from one blogger with no named sources to back his claims. Take the above for what it’s worth! With the frenzy about to hit us in a few days… no doubt there will be more rumors and speculation.
