Apple to Open Early for iPhone Sales

One of the more anticipated questions to be answered in recent weeks was “When are the Apple stores opening for the launch of the new 3G phone?”  Well, wait no more.

Apple.com has released a photo on the site that says the new iPhone will be available at 8am local time July 11th. Apple has followed the same pattern as their US wireless service AT&T to help with the long lines and lengthy in-store activation process.

AppleInsider.com has a compiled list of all the memos and price lists that have been sent out over the course of the announcement of the 3G phone until now, so check it out if you would like.

Can we trust this? As I recall Apple is notorious for putting up ads that advertise one thing, and then when news breaks about it, that picture is gone for good.

Two examples for you: When the iPod Touch was released buyers speculated that there would be Bluetooth capability.  They even posted a picture on the UK Apple site that showed the Bluetooth icon, but was there Bluetooth? No, there wasn’t.

More recently Apple released a picture on the Australian Apple site saying the the App Store and 2.0 firmware update would be released June 27th instead of the much anticipated July 11th.  I, for one, believe this announcement, even though you can’t find the picture on Apple’s site, I still believe it.  I assume that having had a credit check done, it will take at least 30 minutes per customer to actually get the iPhone set up and ready to go.  So I think Apple is making a smart move to be open this early, to help with the super long lines that will form.

I wish all those in line, Happy Waiting.
