A huge un-innovative monopoly.

They bought Fido — to get GSM, and have proceeeded to drive it into the ground.

They lobbied for no-compete laws. So, good luck to anyone coming in to set up shop.

3 year contract. Gimme a friggin’ break. Will anyone still have a working handset after three years — let alone an iPhone? Will they still want it?

I’ve been with Fido (‘matic’) forever. I get a new handset around every 18-24 mo. — whether I want to or not 😉 I keep atleast $30-40 worth of airtime on all three handsets that we own, all the time. That’s convenient for me, and as far as I’ll go to committing. How about Fido commiting to give me non-ridiculous internet data fees?

5¢/kb to download a 40kb Java applet is — $2.
5¢/kb to view a 50kb webpage is — $2.50.
5¢/kb to view this web page is — likely to cause fainting.
This is extortion.

People want to spend money. Especially, if things ‘seem’ like unavoidable good deals. People ALWAYS buy more than intended, when they percieved a ‘good deal’.

If these rates are an obvious rip-off , then — rhetorically speaking — why don’t people use it?
