iPope hits Sydney, Australia

I find this slightly comical and very bizarre! But in a bid to win over Generation Y with some extra kudos, Pope Benedict XVI will begin sending out texts to Catholic World Youth Day subscribers in Sydney Australia over the coming week.

However, even more bizarre is the ad for this service. A giant picture of the Pope holding an iPhone, splashed across one pylon of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

The Pope SMS will have Pope Benedict XVI send a daily massage of inspiration to subscribers, Telstra said. The first message sent out read: “Young friend, God and his people expect much from u because u have within you the Fathers supreme gift: the Spirit of Jesus – BXVI.”

Its great to see the Pope using words from the new SMS Dictionary such as; ‘u’ and an abbreviation of his name ‘BXVI’. I’m sure he’ll definitely splash some ‘lol’s and ‘rolf’s into his next messages.

I’m sure this also asks the question. Is the Pope being paid by Apple to advertise the iPhone or is the Catholic Church paying Apple to help make the Pope look cool once again?
