It seems to me that Apple actually has been the driving factor behind DRM-free music becoming available online. Remember Steve Jobs’ open letter to the music labels? The only reason the iTunes Store doesn’t offer all of it’s tracks DRM-free is because some music labels are holding out on them, to try to prevent Apple from owning the entire online music business.
