Infineon 3G Chip to Blame on iPhone Connectivity Problems?

Infineon Chips to Blame for iPhone Connectivity Issues?

Multiple reports have it that connectivity issues occurring to new iPhone 3G owners could be the result of issues with the Infineon 3G chip. Carriers were initially being blamed, while they defended themselves noting that their networks were strong and they could not find any issues on their end. Looks like they might be correct.

Nomura Securities analyst Richard Windsor noted, “We believe that these issues are typical of an immature chipset and radio protocol stack where we are almost certain Infineon is the 3G supplier.”

The horrible news about this, is if it IS a chip issue… This kind of thing can’t be fixed with a simple firmware update. Do I hear a recall in the near future!?

We’ll have to wait and see what comes of this. I’ll report on the news as it comes in.
