Apple has seeded iPhone 2.1 Beta 4 firmware to developers.
This seed addresses bug fixes. Curiously Apple has removed the push notification service in Beta 4. Apple’s answer as to why the they pulled the feature is “for further development.”

Push notification was announced to developers at WWDC this year, developers of IM clients for example, will benefit the most from this feature. Push Notification allows a client to receive information as it becomes available in an application that supports the feature. Let’s say you have an Instant Messaging client, and someone IM’s you. With Push Notification no longer do you have to check for instant messages manually instead a “badge”, sound or, text display would alert you to the new IM you just received. This feature is expected to be available in  September.
