Updated 17" MacBook Pros Coming in 2009?

One of the biggest things missing from the Apple MacBook Event was undoubtedly the lack of a 17″ MacBook Pro refresh. You can still buy the now previous gen 17″ MacBook Pro, but the laptop largely remains the same. This is a huge disappointment for those that wanted to take advantage of the new features on the larger display size of this model.

According to multiple reports, Apple had hoped to release the 17″ MBP this week along with the other models. However, there have been big issues with the hardware. The display and optical drives are to blame for the lack of a refresh… although reasons have not been confirmed.

At least Apple had the sense not to release a product before it was ready for prime-time. I would suspect they would have had much larger issues to deal with had they released a quirky 17″ MBP.

Now it’s looking like the largest MBP may not be released until early 2009. Again, this is all rumor, but if you were hoping to pick one up, you may have to hold on to your wallet a little bit longer. Probably a good thing, it will give you time to save up for the most expensive model in the line.
