Review: BodyGuardz for iPhone 3G

So this one’s been a long time coming … like since the launch of the iPhone 3G. Hey, better late than never.

Story Time. Since the original iPhone I’ve been a big fan of skin style protection for my devices and during that time I’ve been a proponent of two specific products, the InvisibleShield by Zagg and the bestskinsever skins. These two companies have been on my list for two distinct reasons: Price (bestskinsever) and warranty (InvisibleShield). Now, truth is you’re likely not going to find a better deal price wise than bestskinsever. That’s just reality since they sell the skins at rock bottom prices and they are comparable to both InvisibleShield and BodyGuardz. However, when it comes to a shootout between the InvisibleShield and BodyGuardz, it quickly starts to turn into a deathmatch.

Why you ask? Well, because when you have two products similar in scope, price and warranty, you end up with the inevitable – constant comparisons and people who are on one side of the fence or another. So, rather than tell you which side I’m on, I’m going to give you a look at the product and let you make your own decisions.

Keep in mind that this is a skin, so installation isn’t going to be a whole heck of a lot different than what I’ve outlined in my prior review of the InvisibleShield. As such here’s a couple pictures of the the packaging and installation:

So, there you have the all important installation section. Not a whole lot to mention here. I did find however installation of the BodyGuardz while not "simple" was a tiny bit easier than the InvisibleShield skin and the drying time was a lot faster. Not sure if that was my doing or the product, either way this was actually useable within quite a few hours less time than the InvisibleShield.

Let’s get to the real meat of the battle. BodyGaurdz has the InvisibleShield on the ropes for two reasons. Take a look at that picture right there and see if you can figure out reason number one.

Got it yet?

How about now?

Alright slow poke – here’s the answer: BodyGuardz includes not one  – but two full body skins for the same price as you pay for one InvisibleShield and they include the same lifetime warranty!

Reason number two requires a picture as well – Zoom in on this one. BodyGuardz on the left, InvisbleShield on the right. Also, please ignore any major blemishes, these have been applied multiple times on both devices.

Reason number two is all about "orange peel". To say that there’s less orange peel effect on the BodyGaurdz would be an understatement. Clarity of this shield is unmatched by either of the other shields mentioned in this review and if you’ve been an InvisbleShield user for a while now will really shock you.

Wrapping this one up, there’s a lot of choices in a shield protector for your iPhone. For me there’s no choice about if I should have one of not, I put a shield on immediately. The real question is which one should you choose? Right now, for as much as I love InvisibleShield products, I have to recommend the BodyGuardz shield. Between the 2 included skins, lifetime warranty and unmatched clarity of the skin its a solid product and definitely worth the investment.

Disclaimer – I was given the BodyGuardz as a review sample. I was also given the

InvisibleShield as a review sample (and have purchased multiple shields from them).
