With the election heating up in the US, there’s no doubt that there’s a huge shift of ‘Change’ happening there. That’s not the kind of change I’m talking about here, but it’s a ‘switch’ lets say. The iPhone could soon be a new option for congressional members by the next Congress in January 2009.
The Chief Administrative Office (CAO) that oversees the Congress’ communication technologies has started a small test to see whether the device is a viable option for congress. At the moment, the Congress is setup with over 8,000 BlackBerry devices. That’s a fact, as I’m sure you’ve seen pictures of McCain and Obama clutching onto their Berry’s at various points in the campaign.
If you’re a big iPhone fan and would like to see it in Congress, don’t get too antsy. The CAO will need to purchase new servers if they do plan on committing to the iPhone. Members of congress will then need to pay for the device out of their Member’s Representational Allowance, although a re-embucement could be available.
I hope they proceed at a good pace on this one, although with a general election less than 2-weeks away, I think the US has more important matters at-hand at the moment. ‘In-hand’ matters will surely start in January 09.
