The screen had the usb cable and itunes icons and that is as far as it would go.When trying to restore, I would get error messages. I did a lot of research and found this article to fix my phone http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808

Either way, I’m not sure where you should go from here. Hopefully 2.1 will restore you iPhone back to health however if it doesn’t work, I’m not sure what you can do I’m afraid.

@ MaryRose — I’ve never heard of this I’m sorry to say. The only thing I can suggest is, go back to an Apple store and insist THEY restore it on one of their machines whilst you’re there. If they themselves can’t get it working, they should replace it.

I clicked update and halfway through updating to 2.2 the iPhone went blank and an error message displayed on the screen saying this iphone is now in recovery mode and I must resotre it. I did so and halfway through restoring it the same thing happened. I am now stuck with a completely dead iPhone that wont switch on or do anything! Iv been onto apple care and tried everything they’ve told me to do but to no avail. Anyone ever heard of this?

iphone won’t see my wireless access point, and can’t send sms text because the send button is in the dead zone of the screen.

and at&t won’t replace it. that is BS.

I’ve been with AOL since I had internet (years and years ago) and they’ve always been great for me. Out of all of my e-mail accounts on the iPhone (MobileMe, Yahoo!, AOL, GoogleMail) AOL is probably the most reliable. I have more connection errors with the others, MobileMe especially, than I do with AOL.

@ Ted — My Safari browser doesn’t seem too much better either — it still crashes just as much. I do find though that removing any unused applications certainly speeds up the phone. I often remove any I don’t use every couple off months because I have a build-up of applications I’ve downloaded mainly because they were free and that I never use.

But Safari doesn’t seem that much better at not crashing. I think I might backup and restore the phone completely just to get a fresh install. I also have a bunch of useless apps that I’ve let accumulate and I might as well prune those at the same time.

It wiped all settings other than my home Apple wireless. That may explain part of the first post.

However it was rescued through many resets including network settings.

Until then phone worked, slow GPRS internet worked, wireless worked but 3G didn’t.

Now I have discovered a new problem in the iPhone 2.2 update with regard to wireless.

If I connect to my home wireless access point the iPhone switches to wireless icon and uses wireless access for mail / safari / itunes, etc.

However if I connect on the road to my ad-hoc wireless network, the iPhone 2.2 says it joined but the icon remains 3G. Accessing the mail / safari / itunes, etc. still works so its still going over 3G instead of wireless to my ad-hoc network. Another c*** up.
