Review: mStand by Rain Design

After purchasing my new MacBook, I thought it was about time I started looking for decent a notebook stand. I’m always hunched over a laptop, and after a short period of time I get really uncomfortable. I started looking around for notebook stands and for a while I couldn’t find one I liked. That was until someone pointed me in the direction of Rain Design’s mStand.

The mStand is gorgeous. Made with aluminum it compliments the new MacBooks and MacBook Pros perfectly and looks great on your desk. With Apple’s wireless aluminum keyboard as well, it makes a fantastic looking computer set-up. The mStand is sleek, curvy, elegant and stylish. If Apple’s fantastic designers were to sit down and design a laptop stand, the mStand is what they’d come up with. It’s not big, bulky and heavy like many of the other notebook stands on the market.

A solid peice of aluminum is what makes the mStand and it’s extemely sturdy. Of all the notebooks stands I’ve tried, this is the most stable. Many notebook stands wobble or feel as if they’re going to give way under your machine at any moment. Considering the light weight of the mStand, it’s surprisingly sturdy and I have no worries about it toppling over or giving way.

There are small rubber pads on the bottom and the top of the mStand that will stop it from scratching both your desk or your notebook. They also provide some decent grip to stop the mStand slipping and sliding across a freshly polished desk.

The rear of the mStand has a hole cut out, just like the one in the iMac stand, that allows you to feed any wires through and keep them tidy. This is handy if you have external hard drives, iPhones, headphones and other things all feeding off of your notebook — instead of having them strewn all over your desk, they can be fed through the hole in the mStand and kept neat and out of the way.

As I’ve previously said, sitting hunched over a laptop for hours on end can really start to get uncomfortable. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve had a stiff back after typing away on my MacBook for a few hours. However I’ve been sat at my desk all day now and I’m really comfortable. I’m not bent over, my MacBook’s screen is at eye-level and I’m really surprised how much of a difference just adding a stand can make.

If you’re looking for a stand for your notebook, I would definitely recommend the mStand. The mStand is compatible with other laptops as well, not just the MacBook/Pro and makes any desk look stylish and sophisticated.

I’m sat here now trying to think of ways I would change the mStand or ways in which it could be improved, however I just can’t think of any. Rain Design really have done a great job here and I would choose this stand over any other. As laptop stands go, I rate this 10/10!
