iPhone Sharepoint App Coming Soon

iSharephone – which promises to bring fast, easy, and secure access to Sharepoint from the iPhone – is due to make it to the App Store soon …

I haven’t used it in a while, but I’m a big fan of Sharepoint.  It’s always struck me as one of Microsoft’s rare ‘Best of Breed’ applications over recent years and just a very powerful and impressive product.  I was very happy to report back in June that there was an impressive looking Sharepoint app for the iPhone in the works.

This week I’ve received an email newsletter from iSharephone that let me know that:

You will soon receive an email notification when iSharePhone is available in the App Store.

Very cool.  Of course that statement leaves me wondering how soon is soon, but it still sounds good to me.  I’m hoping soon means very soon – as apparently the app is ‘out there’ being beta tested by some corporate users already.

Read on for a little more detail on iSharephone’s features and some screencaps …

  • View documents: doc, docx, dot, xls, xlsx, ppt, pptx, html, mht, txt, gif, jpeg, tiff, png, pdf, numbers, pages and keynote.
  • The iPhone does not support msg files, but iSharePhone enables you to view the msg files (e-mails) in your mail enabled SharePoint Document Libraries.
  • Email documents directly from SharePoint to any recipient withiShaerphoneout downloading the file to your iPhone.
  • SharePoint full-text search.

Once the app is available and installed, you can connect to a demo Sharepoint environment straight away.  To connect to your own Sharepoint environment, you need to install a server component as well.

The iSharephone newsletter also provided some initial pricing information:

iSharephone will be available for free download in the App Store. iSharephoneServer will be free to use for up to 2 iPhone users. Any further details about pricing will be announced after the launch.

Here’s hoping soon really does mean soon for iPhone Sharepoint fans …
