iPhone Dev Team is targetting a New Year’s Eve release for their iPhone 3G unlock application …

Many of you will already have seen this news over the last few days, but thought I’d share it just in case, for those who haven’t been keeping up with all the feeds this week.

The iPhone Dev Team has announced that they’ve managed to unlock the iPhone 3G, and are aiming to release a user-friendly application – which is codenamed ‘yellowsn0w’ – on New Year’s Eve.

The unlock method will require baseband  2.11.07 or earlier (I believe I saw somewhere recently that this is the baseband used on iPhone 2.0 firmware, but can’t find the reference right now) – so it will not work on the very latest iPhone firmware.

See HERE for the Dev Team’s full announcement on this.
