MyWisdom – a new iPhone quotes application – seems quite a good option to me, if you like a bit of wisdom and witty quotations in your life …
iPhone ‘Quote of the Day’ applications are probably not right up at the top of most iPhoners’ ‘Must Have’ list – but I am very fond of quotes collections in almost all forms. I feel that although I am not a purveyor of witty, pithy lines, I am a very good appreciator of them.
So the new MyWisdom app caught my eye amongst the myriad of new releases yesterday. I’ve been messing with it a fair bit since installing it yesterday, and really enjoying it.
Here’s a brief list of its main features:
- More than 1,500 quotes, from 350 authors
- 19 categories
- photos of authors of the quotes
- daily updated Quote of the day to inspire yourself
- add your favorite quotes to Favorites
- play Wisdom Quiz to test your knowledge of famous quotes
- send quotes via email
- one touch access to information about quotes’ authors

Here are my quick thoughts / first impressions on this app:
- The amount of quotes and authors seems pretty strong to me, as well
as the categories they’re divided into. I’m not bored yet at least. Having said that, there’s of course going to be some room for improvement in terms of the program’s ‘coverage’ and I’m sure everyone will have their share of authors / quotes they think need to be included. For example, I noticed that W.B Yeats is not represented – I would definitely like to see him in there. I hope future updates may extend the coverage. - The ‘About Author’ button is a nice little feature. When you tap it takes you straight out to a Wikipedia page for the quote’s author – great for finding out about someone new whose quote caught your attention.
- I also like that features like ‘Roll the Dice’ (to get a new, randomly selected quote) and bookmarking are very simple to use and easy to spot within the user interface.
- Including a Quiz section also strikes me as quite a good idea. I’ve already given it a go several times (did miserably badly) and found it quite a nice additional distraction.

Overall, MyWisdom seems very well implemented, easy to use, and fun.
Since discovering MyWisdom I’ve done a little look-around and seen that there are at least 10 other applications in the App Store that fall into this ‘quote of the day’ type category. Once again, I’m surprised that there are so many. I may well try some of the others at some point, but from a quick tour through them, MyWisdom seems to stack up quite well in terms of features.
MyWisdom is available now in the App Store, priced at $1.99.
Anyone else enjoy this sort of app? Or have a current favorite in this category?
