Shopper is an application (on sale for $0.99) that I picked up for my wife to use on her iPod Touch which does exactly what you would think it does – create shopping lists for your various store trips.
There’s quite a few shopping applications out there for the iPhone / Touch so feel free to wade through them, however I picked this one up because it has a fairly simple interface and it seemed to follow the iPhone interface guidelines well which I hoped would make it simpler for my wife to grasp quickly without a lot of fuss. I also really liked that the developer included a video on their website which let me see what the app looked like and felt like to use.
Key features I found that were great in this app:
Support for multiple lists so you can have individual lists depending on what store you plan to go to
Huge selection of pre included items ranging from fruits and veggies to pharmacy items
Search – which let’s you avoid going through each category. You just type in steak and it let’s you add it immediately
Support for quantities and easy increase/decrease of the amount you need
Price support
Item grouping – so you can go to the store and see all the items in say the Dairy section, that way you aren’t constantly scrolling through your list to make sure you aren’t having to come back to an area of the store twice
Add and delete of items so you can add in things that weren’t included in the program to begin with
Email support – so you can email the list to someone else if they are going to the store for you
All in all if you’re a person who does the bulk of the shopping for your family, or if you constantly keep a shopping list going on a piece of scrap paper – Shopper is an excellent application to add to your iPhone / Touch. I love the interface (looks like a notepad), it’s super easy to add stuff to your lists quickly, and once you’re at the store locating items by area and marking off items is a breeze. I loaded this app up on my wife’s Touch and she put it to use immediately with very few questions about how to do things. It’s already become a heavily used application by her and has saved us countless scraps of paper so far! The only thing I’d love to see is the ability to share lists between devices, that way she could send me the list and I could use Shopper when she sends me to the store!
