Unlock Your iPhone 3G With yellowsn0w from the iPhone Dev Team

The wait is over. You can now unlock your iPhone 3G thanks to the heard work of the iPhone Dev Team. The new ‘yellowsn0w’ application has arrived today, right on cue. The first version available is a beta (0.9.1), so be warned before you try it… I’m not going to be held responsible if anything bad happens! Backup your device before you start! With this being a beta, I’m sure there are a lot of bugs to work out, but kudos to the Dev Team for their hard work on this one.

yellowsn0w works on the 02.28.00 baseband (the new, 2.2 Firmware). This is great news. First update your iPhone to the latest firmware to get started. From there you’ll need to ensure your iPhone 3G is jailbroken. You can use whatever tool you feel most comfortable with… The PwnageTool and QuickPWN are solid choices. Finally, you can use Cydia or Installer and use one of the repositories provided by the Dev Team to install and run yellowsn0w.

For more information, repository locations and full details, head on over to the iPhone Dev Team Blog.
