ESPN Cameraman is a ‘spot the difference’ game for the iPhone, where you have to identify and tap (very) subtle differences between two nearly identical sports photos – drawn from action in the NFL, MLB, NBA, US college sports, as well as ‘action sports’, soccer, and cheerleading.
I just heard of this game via a review over at iPhone Central, and have been playing with it for just a short while this afternoon. I like the game a lot, although so far it is kicking my can all over the place. I’m finding it much harder than an average spot the difference game.
Here’s a good overview of how you play, from the iPhone Central review:
Gameplay in ESPN Cameraman is pretty simple ”you ‘re charged with finding five differences between two otherwise similar sports images. When you spot something that looks out-of-place ”a missing logo, a cropped out letter, an inconsistent jersey number ”tap on the area of the image. If you ‘re right, you ‘ll hear the sound of a camera clicking while a red circle appears over the spotted difference. If you ‘re wrong, the image will shake and you ‘ll hear the sound of a crowd jeering your incompetence. A red timer bar counts down along the left side of the screen. Each time you guess wrong, more time disappears, so there ‘s little value in just stabbing wildly at one of the pictures, hoping you ‘ll tap one of the differences through sheer luck.
Once you correctly identify the five differences within the alloted time, you move on to the next image. Fail to do so, and you lose a life ”you only have but three lives to give for your ESPN Cameraman game. You get points for each difference you correctly spot, plus bonus points for finishing a level quickly.
ESPN Cameraman also has a Hints feature, which will help you out with spotting up to 3 differences in a given round. I’m sad to say that, for the moment, I need a ‘300 Hints’ variant on this to stand a chance. 🙂 Even so, I am enjoying the game a lot, and looking forward to playing it with my eagle-eyed little one. For those who are (hopefully much) better than me, you can track your scores and see how you stack up against others online.
If you’re a sports nut, another little bonus is that the images in it are really crisp and show some great scenes from recent sporting events.
I’ve got a lot of practicing to do on this app, but it’s already looking like a definite keeper for me. You can find ESPN Cameraman at the App Store, and it’s a free app …
