Depending on the exact angle of the landing – hitting a corner directly on the top is a definite possibility. The chances of that are fairly slim though and it would have to be at just the right angle. For the most part if it landed a bit more to the front first it would be protected, but if it landed more towards the back I think the phone would take a hit. The front portion goes up slightly above the top of the phone and protects to about the level of the lock switch. The back does not come up as far however and stops roughly at the bottom of the lock switch.
