Cisco’s WebEx application is a mainstay program for many corporate collaborators – allowing them to remotely attend meetings, share control of those meetings amongst remote attendees, chat, and much more. Now they’re bringing this remote collaboration tool to the iPhone, with their new Cisco WebEx Meeting Center application.
I learned of this over at GigaOM – where Om Malik offers some thoughts on the appeal of the new app, as well as how iPhone may start making a little more impact in the corporate arena. Hope he’s right:
In other words, you don ‘t need to be in the office to get going ” you can totally do meetings from anywhere ” as long as AT&T ‘s temperamental 3G network is working. Your WebEx system needs to be iPhone compatible at the back end, though, and for now you can view the presentations but not start them from your iPhone. I think that, despite all the reservations about iPhone in the enterprise, apps such as WebEx for iPhone indicate that it will find footing inside corporations.
There’s a demo video of Cisco WebEx Meeting Center for iPhone HERE. It’s been a while since I’ve used Webex, but this video shows off the iPhone app nicely and it looks very impresive.
Cisco WebEx Meeting Center is available in the App Store now, and is a free app.
