Tweetie Updated – Adds Features, Farts, and PEE

Tweetie – my favorite iPhone Twitter app – has had an update today (to Version 1.2e), and it’s a major one that adds some very cool new features and a couple of very funny surprises. The surprises are explained in superb style at the developer’s site atebits.com:

PEE is a collection of ever-growing technologies scientifically designed to enhance the size of that certain something… You guessed it: App Store sales!
Teams from around the globe have analyzed figures and come up with a secret formula for App Store success. I share these findings today, ABSOLUTELY FREE. Success is made up of: a FLASHLIGHT…. and DIRTY WET FART SOUNDS!!!

That’s just a small excerpt of a very funny post expanding on what PEE is, how Tweetie is the first iPhone app EVER to bundle together these ‘two incredible features’, and explains how to use the new flashlight and fart sounds. One of the best new features added to this update is Instapaper integration. Some of the other new features include:

  • Ability to block and unblock users
  • Remember scroll position on launch
  • Drafts persist across relaunches
  • Resend a tweet on network error
  • Link to twitpic.com for pics

Tweetie has also added a slick new UI feature – you can now swipe across a tweet and see options for replying to get 3 buttons that let you reply to that message, check out (or unfollow) the sender of the message, or favorite the message.

Oh, and getting back to those ‘popularity enhancing’ elements of the update, you will also hear a randomly selected fart noise each time you swipe across a tweet, if you choose to turn that feature on via the Advanced section of Tweetie’s settings.

All in all, an impressive update for an excellent app – and quite a nice ‘swipe’ at all those wonderful factors which lead to App Store popularity …
