Ustream (viewing) App for iPhone Launched

The much-anticipated Ustream video streaming application for the iPhone has made it to the App Store tonight.

This is the Ustream Viewing app – for watching Ustream.tv shows live on the iPhone. Ustream is also hoping to have an app that will let you stream video from your iPhone, but that has not made it past the Apple approval process yet.

I’m a newbie to Ustream, but the app seems quite impressive. Initial buffering doesn’t take long, video looks pretty steady, and it has some useful looking features. You select Live, Upcoming, or Archived streams via easy nav buttons – and can then also look at Featured content, or search for specific content. If you have (or create) a Ustream account, you can participate in live chat as well.

Very good looking app – and, as promised by Ustream, just in time for the inauguration (which is a featured stream of course) tomorrow.

You can grab the Ustream Viewing app in the App Store now, and it’s free.

UPDATE: Have just been watching Chris Pirillo Live while he is streaming live video via “private beta Ustream iPhone app”. It looks superb! Video has no major latency that I’ve noticed yet, audio is loud and clear (including some man made iFarts). Again, very impressive.
