Man, the range of options for listening to live radio on the iPhone is going through the roof this year. Today, I spotted an article in the Austin Business Journal touting a new iPhone application for a local Austin station, KUT 90.5.
I’ve never been a KUT listener before today, but when I saw they’d created a free app for the iPhone I figured ‘Goodonyafella’ and thought I’d give them a try. You’ve gotta love a local station paying attention to how people are listening to music / radio …
‘In this era of media and device convergence, it ‘s more important than ever to deliver content to listeners via the devices they use, whether it ‘s radio, mobile phones, the Web or another device, ‘ said Stewart Vanderwilt, director and general manager of KUT … In addition to 90.5 FM, users can listen to KUT ‘s HD channels: KUT2, featuring programs not heard on 90.5; and KUT3, an all-jazz station.
KUT apparently had their first taste of the iPhone side of things when they were one of the NPR affiliates who were selected to take part in the NPR Mobile project.
I’m happy to say a local Austin station show up with an app on the iPhone, happy I discovered the station, and now a bit of a KUT fan 🙂
You can find the KUT app in the App Store now, and it’s free.
