Town Hall is an iPhone app that provides a reference for the United States Congress, and a whole lot more …
It feels like lots of us here in the USA are more interested in our government again lately, energized by the recent elections and by the spirit of hope that seems to surround our new president and his administration, and anxious to see what our elected representatives are going to do about this economic crisis and other major issues facing us.
Town Hall is an excellent new iPhone app that lets you learn a whole lot about some of those elected folks that are supposed to be working for us in the Congress, and even interact with them. Hit the jump for a few more screencaps and some thoughts on why this is an impressive new app …
Town Hall is produced by Brainjuice, the makers of the superb Blogo (blog editing) software who I have recently been so impressed by.
Here are some of its features:
- Lets you research past and present members of the House and Senate as far back as 1950
- Each member profile is linked to Google News, VoteSmart, OpenSecrets, GovTrack, and Twitter search, as well as their official site
- You can find your elected representatives quickly via a Zip code search
Some of the things I like about Town Hall:
Once you pick out an individual member, there’s an easy, big button to use to call them directly.
It has its own inline browser which is used to load the Google News and other main reference pages …
It’s also got Wikipedia pages for each member …
Most of its reference pages are nicely formatted for the iPhone, or easily adjustable within the inline browser. Good call!
It’s even got an ‘Overheard’ section for each representative, which shows recent Twitter messages relating to them. Very cool.
As you can tell, I like this application a lot. I know I’m interested in what our Texas reps are up to, but I’m a lazy git and don’t often take the time to keep up with what they’re doing. This app seems a great resource for doing this much more easily, with so many reference sources easily to hand.
Town Hall is available now in the App Store, at $0.99. That price is apparently 50% off the intended standard cost, and is a ‘limited time’ offer.
