New Death Cab for Cutie iPhone App – Every Band Should Do This, ASAP

Wow – the new Death Cab for Cutie iPhone app is very slick, very good looking, and very impressive. One of my first thoughts after discovering it tonight, is that *every* band should be producing an app like this – right away! If this isn’t a superb promotional tool then I don’t know what is.

I’m not a Death Cab for Cutie (DCfC) fan (before tonight), but thanks to this application I’m discovering the band and liking what I hear so far.

Read on for more screencaps and details on some of the great features of this app …

Here are just a few of the things that have impressed me so far:

It offers a great range of content about the band – from News and show schedules, to discography, photos, videos (which play via the YouTube app), and music.

It includes 10 full DCfC songs

You can play those songs on its own integrated music player, it doesn’t drop you out to the iPod app. In fact, you can start a track playing and then switch back to the main view and browse through upcoming show dates (or other areas) while you’re listening to a song. You can even pause and restart tracks from the main screen view via a simple Play / Pause button displayed at the top right of the interface.

Speaking of which, the app’s user interface is simple, elegant looking, and dead easy to navigate and work with.

You can access nearly all of its content from within the app itself – only the Store and Mailing List sections chuck you out to Mobile Safari.

The photos included seem like very good quality …

In the Shows section, tour dates are sortable by distance from your current location (and by date), and it provides driving directions from your current location to the concert – as well as latest concert details and ticket info.

This is a great promo tool for Death Cab for Cutie, and just a great iPhone app all the way around. A pleasure to use!
