Meeting Ender – or Meeting Ender Time Is Money to use its full name – is an iPhone ‘novelty’ app (my definition, not any sort of official label in the App Store) that promises to help you ‘get out on time’ when you’re in a meeting that runs over.
If you’ve ever worked an office job, you’ve probably been in ‘The Meeting That Wouldn’t End’ at some point in time. I know I have. They usually happen when you are at your very best – carrying a huge hangover, extremely tired, maybe extremely unprepared for the meeting, and so on.
Meeting Ender lets you set a timer, so that a selected funny sound will play when it runs out – or just to make one play right now if things get desperate. The selection of sounds includes fake incoming calls (with rings made to sound like a very old time ‘grandma phone’ and a mobile phone), a digital watch alarm going off, a cuckoo clock sounding, a rooster crowing, and my favorite – monkeys making monkey noises (not sure the techie term for those) with the caption being ‘C’mon monkeys’.
The app’s (possibly tongue in cheek) premise is that it can be used as a reminder to your meeting colleagues that time is money etc., and encourage them to call an end to your meeting misery. I can’t really see that – but I can see it being a fun bit of mischief and a talking point with pals in a boring meeting. Hell, maybe even enough to get you kicked out of the meeting, to nurse your aching head elsewhere. 🙂 I used to have to go a weekly team meeting at 8:00am every Monday – and Oh Boy would this have come in handy!
Its price tag is pretty steep, in my view, for a fun / novelty app – maybe a fund raising effort amongst fellow meeting sufferers to split the cost is in order.
