The last few days have given us plenty of juicy iPhone rumors to work with. We’ve had lots of talk about whether Adobe and Apple *are* working together to get Flash for iPhone happening sometime – though this one has its doubters for sure. There’s also a report this week from Apple Insider on a possible new iPhone model come June (which Apple says is the iPhone ‘refresh cycle’ time anyway).
My current favorite (in terms of wanting to see it happen) is that Apple may be looking at allowing some background running of apps under the next major iPhone software update, to version 3.0. Macrumors says they’ve heard some promising things on this subject:
While we aren’t sure what the specific issues are, we’ve heard that as an alternative Apple is considering allowing apps to run as user selectable background processes. If so, this feature would likely come in the rumored iPhone 3.0 software update but would be limited to only one or two processes on current hardware. The next generation iPhone, however, would likely see less restricted background process support due to its improved hardware.
As a first reaction, I wonder whether only allowing a couple background processes on current hardware is still a bit too cautious on Apple’s part – but hey, at this point *anything* in this direction sounds a good thing to me. I don’t like thinking that you’ll need to upgrade to a new iPhone come June in order to get ‘full’ background apps support though.
What do you all think? What’s your favorite rumor of the week so far? And what do you think of this background processes stuff?
