Coming Soon – iPhorest App – Planting Virtual and Real Trees from Your iPhone

iPhorest is a soon-to-be-released iPhone application with a novel and admirable-sounding approach – planting and looking after virtual trees within the app, and helping to foster some real-life re-forestation along the way.

Here’s a better explanation of what the app will do:

… the app that allows users to plant trees from their phone. By downloading the app, the user activates a seedling both virtually and physically. As the seedling on their phone grows, users can also send seeds to other phones, starting a new forest.

For each virtual tree planted, The Conservation Fund will plant a native tree in real life – starting with restoration of vulnerable wildlife habitats along the Gulf Coast. They will work with the nation’s leading public natural resource agencies to ensure the long-term protection of each iPhorest.

This seems pretty cool all the way around. Sounds like fun to watch your virtual seedling grow (I know my daughter will love this one) and knowing that some real-life trees are getting planted via this app’s efforts is a very nice added bonus.

Oh, and iPhorest has some pretty great straplines:

Not all apps need to be killer.
We’re happy to bring you one that is living.
