I recently posted about iMob Online and how it was having all sorts of problems, and how the game had become virtually unplayable for me. I had got to the point where I was considering deleting the app if fixes and performance improvements didn’t come along quickly.
Well, iMob got an update yesterday (to Version 1.03) – and I’m happy to say this update has fixed nearly everything that was making the game so unsatisfactory before. Since applying the update, the app launches successfully every time (no connection errors / bouncebacks to Home screen). I’ve also seen *zero* network errors when viewing and interacting with the ‘Fights’ screen or accepting pending invites – both of which had been areas where I was getting almost continuous errors before.
Also fixed is the issue with game time only continuing to run when you had the app open. This is now back to as it was originally – with time continuing to elapse even when you close the program.
Not only are all these things fixed, but the performance of the game is tremendously improved. It is running much, much faster than I have ever seen. One clear example of this is in the Fights area – I previously found it was very slow in coming back with the result of a fight once you tapped to choose an opponent. Now it is very quick – almost immediate in some instances.
In short, iMob Online is fun to play again. Having nearly given up on it – I probably would have but I just didn’t fancy starting over on one of the similar games out there – I am now very glad I didn’t.
The other big issue that has plagued iMob has been severe cheating. Apparently, the devs are on the warpath on this subject as well. They’ve now got a blog site – located at:
http://imobonline.wordpress.com/
Their first post goes into detail on how they are responding to and punishing those who have cheated. Here’s a brief excerpt:
iMob version 1.03 has been released. This new version will bring dramatic change to iMob Online. For far too long, cheaters have been running wild without punishment. Their time will come to an end. I have decided to take extreme measures against cheaters and the iMobbers that have profited from them. In this new version you will see:
* Players with over $1,000,000,000 (about 7,000 of you) will have your accounts cut to $1,000,000,000 even. I realize some of you have not cheated but most of you have.
While I’m very glad to see something being done about cheating, that bullet point just above seems a little weak. I had heard somewhere that one possibility was to chuck cheaters into an entirely separate area, out of the main game in effect. I like that approach better. The money reduction mentioned above doesn’t seem strong enough to me.
The blog post also mentions that all previous versions of the app (prior to 1.03) will soon cease to work – as cheating can still be done with the older versions.
And there’s one last bit of good news for those of us who have been playing the game without cheating as well:
Finally, to all you honorable iMobbers: Once this is all done, you will all receive bonus Respect Points for not cheating.
Overall, some great strides for iMob. Today the game runs faster and better than it ever has for me. I hope it will continue this way.
I’d love to hear how the update has gone for others – are you seeing as much improvement as I am?
