New: Spb Wallet iPhone Version Launched

As the months go by, and the numbers for the App Store continue to astound, more and more leading software titles from the Palm and Windows Mobile arenas are showing up for the iPhone OS. Today Spb Wallet – a very popular and well respected digital wallet, or password manager, app – is a new addition to the App Store.

I never got to know Spb Wallet very well back in my Windows Mobile days (though I always meant to), but I do know it’s had some sterling reviews – not least this one where it went head-to-head with eWallet.

The new iPhone version of the app boasts a very strong feature set, which includes:

  • 256-bit AES encryption
  • ‘Flip flow’ view for cards (?)
  • Auto fill for website passwords
  • Fully customizable cards
  • An online cards template gallery
  • Item-level sync
  • Sync with Google Mail (??)
  • Sync with desktop over WiFi

There are a few things in that list that are of particular interest for me. I’m curious to see what the ‘flip flow’ cards view is all about. I’m very curious about what exactly is meant by sync with Google Mail – I wonder if this just means you can mail yourself some sort of backup file, which would be a decent little feature in addition to, rather than instead of, syncing options.

It looks like desktop sync is Windows only – unless you try to sync via a virtual machine, which I don’t find hugely appealing. This has also been my one sticking point with the otherwise superb eWallet app for iPhone – no Mac client, although they are set to release one soon (hopefully).

I’m keen to hear and learn more about how the Spb Wallet app will stack up, in what is a very tough category, with some great apps already established – like eWallet, 1Password, and SplashID, just to mention a few that I know well.

Spb wallet is in the App Store now, priced at $9.99 (and the desktop app will cost you $9.95).
