Alright, so my last micro post about the Air Mouse wasn ‘t really intended to be posted. It was the result of a mis-click while I was using Air Mouse on my netbook. I was in Windows Live Writer and was planning to type up a new post before doing this one, but the gigantic ‘publish ‘ button is right below ‘file ‘, so guess which one I clicked by accident? Being the super duper techie that I am, I ended up slamming my MSI Wind shut after clicking publish in the hopes of preventing the post from going live. It didn ‘t work.
Here ‘s what I wanted to say before: with the most recent update, Air Mouse has become a lot more capable. It ‘s a mobile trackpad, an air mouse, and more “ and it ‘s all centered around your iPhone.
Hit the jump for screenies and more deets.
So it turns out that Air Mouse probably won ‘t pan out with my Wind for regular usage. I ‘m not saying Air Mouse isn ‘t awesome, but it does need a bit more computing power than my Wind can really handle on the go. I was using the Wind on AC and had it overclocked by 12.5%, but even with that extra juice I found the mouse cursor sputtering around the screen.
But if you ‘ve got a laptop (or even a desktop “ but I ‘m focusing on mobile) with more power behind it you might want to check out Air Mouse for the iPhone as a make-shift mobile trackpad or media controller. Version 1.5 of the desktop and iPhone software can recognize what program you ‘re currently using and can function the way those crazy little Vista Sideshow screens should probably have worked. All you need to do is install the desktop and iPhone clients and then sign onto the same wi-fi network on your comp and iPhone “ that ‘s it.
Once that ‘s done you can do all sorts of stuff with the Air Mouse and there ‘s a great video featuring all of the new features right here. You can use the iPhone as an air mouse and wave it around to control the cursor. There are also other fantastic features like shaking to pop the keyboard up, media player recognition and controls, on-screen keyboard support, and landscape support.
My favourite feature, however, is the fact that you can use the iPhone as a mobile trackpad. Like I said in my mis-post, trackpads have always gotten in my way on laptops and it ‘s great to be able to have a mobile mouse that I ‘ll always have with me. What ‘s more “ Air Mouse supports multi touch scrolling on Windows!
The only thing I really wish is that the program included Bluetooth support. There are times when it ‘s not possible for me to log onto a wifi network with both my netbook and iPhone (my uni campus, for example) and it ‘d be great to establish an ad-hoc BT connection for Air Mouse. Unfortunately, the iPhone ‘s craptacular Bluetooth support has absolutely destroyed this dream.
You can find Air Mouse Pro 1.5 on the App Store for $5.99 (the desktop client is free).
