ITN News is a new iPhone app that provides latest news from, funnily enough, the ITN network in the UK. Its news coverage includes UK news as well as World, Business, Sport, and ‘Fun Stuff’.
The app is heavily focused on video news items – the text-based versions of each article are presented in a fairly basic, drab way – with most offering an easy link to a video version of the story. Once you click ‘Done’ on any of the videos you watch, you are dropped back into the app, right where you left off.
ITN News has a good range of content under each of its main categories. The Sports section in particular seems strong. The ‘Fun’ section has some good items, but does not seem to have as much content – it hasn’t changed much (or at all) between yesterday and today.
It seems perhaps content and freshness of content is one thing that is not firing on all cylinders yet with ITN News. For instance, it is now February 10th, 5:00pm GMT – and ITN News is showing me ‘Last Updated’ time as February 9th at around 10:30 GMT. On closing and relaunching the app a second time, it got a refresh and showed new content. Getting up-to-date shouldn’t require two launches of the program – and there should probably be a Refresh button somewhere in the app, so you can take matters into your own hands when it has fallen behind.
It’s still nice to see another British news source on the iPhone, and the focus on video stories is nice as well. Hopefully the content for the app will expand and updating will be improved in future application updates.
ITN News is in the App Store now and is a free app.
