Addition's iPhone Modem 2: Use Your iPhone as a Wireless Laptop Modem

Do a lot of traveling? If you’re feeling left out and un-connected while on the road, and simply need to get back on your laptop…there is a solution you can use to get back up and running on the interwebs… With a handy little app called iPhoneModem 2 and a jailbroken iPhone 3G.

The unfortunate news around this app is Apple has decided it is in conflict with the App Store Terms and Conditions… So, like I said you’ll have to pick it up on Cydia.

So how do you get cookin’? Here’s how:

  1. Jailbreak your iPhone. Do a search for ‘Jailbreak iPhone’ on the internet if you don’t know why or how. QuickPWN is a great option.
  2. Install iPhoneModem 2 via Cydia. After your jailbroken, get Cydia and search this ‘unofficial’ app store for iPhoneModem 2. It’ll be there waiting for you.
  3. Install the helper app. This app goes on your laptop and is essential to get your iPhone and laptop working together.
  4. Set up your network. Run the helper app and hit connect. A default network called ‘iPhoneModem’ will be created that does not have a password to start (you can change this). Open up your iPhone’s settings and tap WiFi. Make sure that WiFi is turned on, and select ‘iPhoneModem’.
