Reason for the silly post title is that a couple years back a homeless guy here in Austin used to hold up a sign reading ‘Need fuel for Learjet’. It got a lot of praise and a bit of newspaper coverage, and for some reason it’s just stuck with me.
I very, very rarely try to write this sort of post – so hope you’ll be gentle with me if it’s clumsy and awkward (which I expect it will be). Here’s the deal – I love running this site, and trying to get together as many good reviews and as much good content as possible. Luckily, I have some great contributors and I am passionate about the iPhone, so it’s far from the world’s toughest job. π
Over the last couple of weeks, I’ve been spending a huge amount of time, and amounts of money that are sizable for me at the moment – dealing with several very challenging ‘backend’ sort of site issues. Big problems, that are time-consuming to identify and fix. I’ve worked with an excellent and super-helpful consultant and got through most problems.
Today we’ve been fighting against a very severe issue, and we’re continuing to do so as I write this. Not one that affects any of you as visitors, but one that has caused HUGE headaches for me and for the site. Without going into too much detail, suffice to say we’ve got an issue with spammers that is destroying the site’s ranking in Google search results (which is easily the biggest bringer of traffic to JAiB).
Why am I boring you with all this stuff? As a very long-winded lead-in to saying that although this is far from the hardest job in the world, it does take a lot of time to run the site and work on content for it. And lately, as traffic grows (hurray), it also takes a bit more money to keep the site going smoothly.
So … if any of you all ever feel so inclined, we are not against a little bit of support. Support could be checking out our one and only real ‘Site Sponsor’ – the excellent everythingicafe site. Give their Accessories Store a look when you need bits and bobs for your iPhone, and check out their forums, my favorite iPhone discussion place.
Or if you’re an iPhone app publisher, you could think about advertising with us – lots of smart and passionate iPhone and Touch users here.
Or support could mean hitting the little ‘Paypal Donate’ button located conveniently at the top right of the screen (right below the Twitter badge) if you ever feel the urge.
Or clicking some of the ad links on the right sidebar, if they’re offering anything that might be of use to you.
Or using the ‘Tweet This’ and ‘Digg This’ buttons below a post when you feel it deserves some internet love.
If you don’t feel like doing any of these things, or don’t have the means to, that’s fine too, of course. I am already very, very grateful that you come here and visit the site, and leave us some great comments!
If you do feel like it though, it would be hugely (enormously) appreciated – and it would be a big help in keeping the site going strong.
Thanks for listening (well, reading that is) if you made it all the way to here. π
