With all these clever and innovative new iPhone apps coming out to promote bands of late, I guess it ‘s only to be expected that some others will enter this category at the crappy end of the spectrum. The new Pussycat Dolls “ PCD TV app certainly fits right into that area.
I should admit that I start out from a negative place on this one, as I am very much not a fan of the Pussycat Dolls “ but then again I was not a fan of Death Cab for Cutie either before seeing their app, and I was certainly open-minded about this free app.
PCD TV lives down to my expectations though.
It contains zero full songs, streamed or otherwise. So if you are a fan of their music, you ‘re not getting much here.
You do get quite a lot of ‘behind the scenes ‘ type video footage of the group “ so there is some rehearsing and practicing of songs included within that. Thing is, nearly all the videos I watched “ from rehearsals to ‘get to know them ‘ type mini-interview clips, were very, very low quality. The visuals were jerky and poor, and the audio ranged from distorted and hard to understand to far too loud and featuring way too much shrieking.
What else do you get besides the low quality videos? Not much. An ‘Updates ‘ tab with links to recent PCD stories in the media, a ‘Downloads ‘ section that offers zero free content, just links to iTunes (with an embedded Linkshare link so somebody makes a slice when you purchase) to buy songs, and a ‘Chat ‘ area.
I doubt the PCD girls ever appear in the Chat area, but I have to say it provided some instant entertainment when I opened it this morning. This was the first thing I saw:
Love that classic exchange. That provided the most enjoyment I got out of this app in my short time with it.
If you ‘re a big PCD fan, and none of the above has put you off, you can find PCD TV in the App Store now, and it ‘s a free app.
