A band called The Presidents of the United States of America (PUSA) have brought out an iPhone app that TechCrunch have dubbed ‘the new boxed set ‘. That ‘s a pretty good analogy, because the app contains a lot of the band ‘s well-known (and some never before released) material.
The app “ called ‘The Presidents’ Music “ PUSA ‘ “ offers: ‘four albums, multiple Top 40 hits, the band ‘s earliest ‘lost ‘ recordings, extras and exclusives updated regularly, and direct connection to the band ‘s blog ‘.
That ‘s an awful lot of content packed into a $2.99 app. As TechCrunch points out, the ‘catch ‘ is that all the songs are streamed and played in random order, or you can select a preset playlist. For me, that ‘s not a very big, or bad, catch. It still leaves you with a chance to listen to a lot of material at a very modest price, before deciding whether to buy any of it.
If you do decide you want to purchase any of the tracks, they can be bought and downloaded from within the app itself.
I ‘ve never heard of this band, so this one is not for me “ but, like the recently launched Death Cab for Cutie app “ I think this sort of app is a great promotional tool, and one that more and more bands should be looking at doing.
The Presidents ‘ Music “ PUSA is in the App Store now, at $2.99.
