TheGoodBlogs Explorer iPhone app claims to be ‘the best way to discover new blogs ‘. Here ‘s some more of its App Store description:
They say variety is the spice of life. So why keep reading the same blogs every day? On the other hand, who’s got time to browse new blogs hoping to find something interesting. TheGoodBlogs Explorer will show you blogs you probably never saw before without having to visit each blog. Blogs that will make you laugh, smile, cry and learn a little.
Every time you launch TheGoodBlogs Explorer, we show you 10 great blogs from our TheGoodBlogs community. Covering over 20 categories including Moms, Food, Business, Technology, Politics, Marketing and lots more, you’re sure to find something just for you.
Read on for some very quick impressions on this app
TheGoodBlogsExplorer is free, and I ‘m a huge fan of blogs (big surprise there eh?), so I thought I ‘d give it a quick look today.
It didn ‘t take long to see this one is not for me though. If you want to try to discover interesting new blogs via a completely random selection, drawn from a pool of blogs in a completely unknown community (the TheGoodBlogs community), then the app may appeal to you.
For me however, the following things make it an app that stayed on my iPhone for only a very short time:
- No image handling ability it seems in its default view “ just drab, plain text on a blog item “ unless you tap to go to its not very good inline browser
- You can ‘t do anything to make the selection of blogs / articles any less random. As in, you can ‘t choose a category, or specify big sites, little sites etc. Just take what it shows you.
- There is no way to bookmark an item or a site that you find you like
- There is also no way to share an item “ by email or any other method. There ‘s just no option for this on an item ‘s main view, or when in the inline browser view.
So, even if the totally random method of item selection does lead me to discover something good, I ‘m down to pen and paper if I want to try to mark or remember a cool article or interesting new site (which there were very few of in my quick tour of the app anyway).
There you go. Just a very quick look at this one, as its shortcomings were just too big for it to hold my interest for very long at all.
If this random approach appeals despite its lack of features, you can find TheGoodBlogs Explorer in the App Store now.
