iPhone Devs – You May Want To Throw a Fresh Lick of Paint on Your Web-sites


I ‘ve mentioned here many times that I ‘m a big fan of Ilium Software, and in particular of their eWallet application.  I ‘m also a follower of their blog site, which has lots of fun and informative posts, on their own products and much more.  It gives a great look at what it ‘s like working as a mobile software publisher “ and from various perspectives, from those who cover tech support, to those who founded and run the place.

Ellen “ one of the founders “ recently asked Ilium users and visitors to complete a survey about their App Store habits, and their general approach to finding and assessing iPhone apps.

Admittedly, the survey did not encompass massive numbers of users, but my guess is that it took in an awful lot of very savvy iPhone app purchasers “ and it has some very interesting results already (even on Ellen ‘s first of a series of posts on the results).  The one that most caught my eye was this:

And finally (in the Find apps questions), when asked whether you ever go to an app developer ‘s site, over 87% of you said yes! Only 10% said no. OK, time to work on our site.

That one shocked me.  I didn ‘t think folks would bother to go to developers ‘ sites that often. 

As Ellen suggests above, I ‘d say this is a great reminder to devs to throw a fresh lick of paint on their sites.  I know that I ‘ve visited several sites recently, directly from their App Store page link, and found only a ‘Coming soon ‘ sort of entry on their home page, or pages that make no mention of the app I was looking at. 

In some cases, that may not be a fair reflection of the quality of the app in question.  The site might be lacking attention, but the app might be superb.  But I might never go on to try the app if the site looks unattended.  It strikes me as a very bad omen.

If I was a dev, I ‘d want to ensure my site at least offered a static page or pages that look as if there is a going person / concern behind any App Store applications I developed
