Our good friend Doug over at Just Another Mobile Monday (JAMM) has a great unboxing and first impressions post up, on Amazon ‘s new Kindle 2 ebook reading device.
I have to admit that the first Kindle looked bulky and unappealing to me, but the Kindle 2 looks much better and very appealing if I had anything like the budget for one.
Lacking that budget, I ‘ll take my vicarious Kindle 2 thrills where I can get ’em “ and Doug ‘s unboxing post fits the bill. He ‘s got some great comparison shots of the Kindle 2 next to a Sony Reader, as well as lots of early thoughts on the Kindle ‘s slightly revamped controls, its size, its screen, and more.

OK, time for a look at the screen. One of the really cool things about the Kindle 2 is that even in standby, it is always educating you. When the Kindle 2 goes into standby mode, it displays pictures of famous authors. How cool is that?
