With the recent update to the AIM free app, I thought i would take a good look at it. After using this app for a few days, I have liked some of the changes but not all of them.
First, it is still missing the landscape keyboard. I really like the landscape keyboard and this app will not be top notch until it gets this keyboard. Another change you will notice is there are ads within this application due to them now wanting to try and sell a non ad-supported instant messenger. These ads are bothersome but not too terrible. They have also not supported all the instant messaging clients as this app still only supports Aol, AIM , Icq, Mobile Me, and .mac.
The biggest positive change is they now have it able to send you a sms message to let you know someone has sent you an AIM message. This feature I find very helpful as most of us don’t leave the AIM screen on all the time. You can also set this up not to sign you off for up to 24 hours. Last of all you can now share locations with everyone or your buddy list if you wish to be found out in the wild. I’m not a big fan as sometimes we do not want to be found.
Overall, this is still a nice Instant messaging client application but is only an update away from being the best. Be sure to check with the App Store for the paid version of AIM to be hitting the store soon.
