I ‘m a huge baseball fan “ despite all the horrible and demoralizing steroids news we continue to see. I grew up playing in the backyard with neighborhood pals, playing Little League, even playing our own epic neighborhood Wiffle Ball championships (where tape measure home runs landed in a neighbor ‘s tree house).
Despite all of the above, I somehow never got round to trying the MLB At Bat app for the iPhone last season. I think as it was released some way into the season, and I spent part of the season struggling a bit health-wise, the timing just wasn ‘t right.
So I was well happy to see TUAW ‘s post today saying MLB At Bat 2009 is just about ready “ and this morning I ‘ve been trying out their free ‘Lite ‘ version of the app
Of course the MLB season hasn ‘t started yet (not long now though) “ so the Lite version is currently offering coverage of Spring Training games, as well a the World Baseball Classic.
I ‘m interested in the WBC “ so I ‘m happy to see it included in this app. In fact, saw some highlights on ESPN this morning of Japan ‘s opening win, and their starting pitcher looks like a real ace.
This Lite version of MLB At Bat offers real-time box scores, as well as play-by-play and in-game video highlights for the WBC and ‘select ‘ Spring Training games. I haven ‘t managed to see any of the live stuff or in-game video yet, but I ‘m looking forward to it.
I have watched a couple of the older videos from the ‘Extras ‘ section “ including one where Manny Ramirez talks about re-signing with the Dodgers “ and he opens with ‘I ‘m baaaaack ‘. 🙂
There ‘s also a good, short video showing off what MLB At Bat 2009 will have to offer in the Extras section.
You can find this Lite version available now in the App Store “ and MLB At Bat 2009 will be out on April 2nd. I ‘m keen to see it, and very ready for a new MLB season to kick off
