One of Palm ‘s lead investors has apparently come out with some big-time trash talk regarding the iPhone and the upcoming new Palm Pre smartphone:
Unless he was misquoted, Elevation Partners co-founder Roger McNamee suggested today that all iPhone owners are going to switch to the Palm Pre when their contracts expire.
‘You know the beautiful thing: June 29, 2009, is the two- year anniversary of the first shipment of the iPhone, ‘ McNamee told Bloomberg today. ‘Not one of those people will still be using an iPhone a month later. ‘
While I think the Pre looks like the closest thing to a real iPhone rival in terms of clever ideas and interface, I also believe the iPhone is up to the challenge, and imagine Apple may have some new things up its sleeve in the summer to help in this contest. A new iPhone model, and another major iPhone OS update would be a damn good start

This guy is insane. Palm is dead.
Everyone I know that had a Palm, moved to something else. Everyone!!!
Yeah – I think a lot of people see the Pre as all all or nothing deal or Palm. If it’s not a big success, their future does not look very rosy …
They missed the momentum. They were ahead once, but it’s probably too late now.
Actually, Apple came a bit late too, but they brought a new phone concept.
They better come with something brilliant. In my opinion the best thing in the iPhone is the community. 25,000 apps in less than a year is outstanding!
fiuza – agree with most of that. Definitely the Pre will need to be brilliant. So far it looks / sounds pretty damn good – let’s see how much it lives up to its promise …
