In the course of looking for an additional writer or two for JAiB, another idea came up “ to see if any of you would like to occasionally contribute reviews on iPhone apps or accessories here.
You get plenty of our opinions on apps, accessories, and all things iPhone here. We ‘d love to hear some of yours and, if we get any interest, publish them as an occasional or regular weekend series. If you think this might be of interest to you, read on for some simple guidelines for getting involved in this
Ideally, I ‘d like to just publish any received submissions un-edited “ but I will set a few basic guidelines to start with. Hopefully this makes things a little easier, as you ‘ve got some idea of what is and what is not acceptable, and what we ‘re after. I ‘m going to reel these off quickly here and naturally, they are subject to change any time we decide to change them, and I may well forget some things this first time (will update the post later if I do). So here ya go
Reader Review Guidelines:
As a general suggestion to start off with, I ‘d like to borrow Jim Rome ‘s long-standing advice to callers hoping to get in on his sports talk radio show ..
Have a take, don ‘t suck
What Is Not Acceptable:
Unoriginal content. Please don ‘t rip all or most of another site ‘s post and try to pass it off as your thoughts. If you do quote from another site or source, please credit them / link to the source.
Serious or frequent profanity. I know, we occasionally break this one ourselves “ but rarely and it is never over the top (IMO).
None of the ‘worst of the App Store ‘ type reviews. No dice for anything submitted that is just along the lines of ‘This app is stupid and shouldn ‘t cost $2.99 ‘.
No reviewing your own stuff. For obvious reasons.
What Is Acceptable & Encouraged:
Latest Versions “ If you ‘re reviewing an app, make sure you ‘re working with the latest version of it.
Pictures “ Try to make sure you include at least a couple of screencaps (if reviewing an app) or photos (if reviewing a case or other accessory).
Be objective and fair “ try to set out both good and bad points of the item you ‘re covering. Offer concrete examples to back up your points.
Break up your paragraphs “ huge, long blocks of text are harder to read for most of us lazy readers.
Spelling, grammar, punctuation. Give these your best shot please.
Try to be as thorough as you can “ make us feel like you spent more than 10 minutes with the item you ‘re reviewing.
————————————————————————–
That ‘s about it for now.
If you ‘re interested please send your submissions to
reviewsATjustanotheriphoneblogDOTcom
Don ‘t worry about any fancy formatting “ just send them as you would a normal email.
Look forward to seeing if we have any takers
