Well this has been a huge topic over at the Apple Support Forums and a lot of the new 17-Inch MBP owner’s are upset because they claim that once the computer turns the Geforce 9600M the screen starts showing green-ish lines and weirdness and it gets worst as the card heats up from performance.
Some say Nvidia is the one to blame for manufacturing faulty graphics cards, but in a recent response they say: “
Our understanding is that Apple is investigating this, and if they need our help we will certainly support them. But right now it’s unclear what the issue is, so jumping to conclusions at this point is premature.”
Others say its very possible that its just a software issue that should fix the cooling problem, probably because the fans are not boosting the RPM fast enogh, this causing that the heat starts to affect the screen as it rises, owner’s are hoping that they don’t have the need to take in their brand new machines and that a simple update could fix the problem.
So if you bought a brand new 17-inch MBP and not encountered this on your machine it’s maybe because you haven’t given such heavy work to the integrated card, but it’s definitely worth to check it out, running some games for example, and maybe you find out at the end your one of the lucky one’s that doesn’t have that issue.
