RummyBlast is a fast-paced card game for the iPhone, made by the same developers who produce the SmashWord word game. The game ‘s description says that ‘If you like Rummy and Bejeweled, you ‘ll love RummyBlast ‘.
I have not played either of those games very much at all, and don ‘t really like them “ but in spite of that, I like RummyBlast quite a bit.
RummyBlast presents you with a board full of tiles representing cards “ and the object of the game is to form runs (groups of the same value “ e.g four 7 ‘s) or straights (groups of sequential values “ e.g. 6,7,8,9). You can select tiles in horizontal, vertical, and diagonal directions, or combine directions to get a larger grouping. Once you have the tiles you want selected to form a run or straight, you just hit the Discard button, and the tiles will shift as selected ones are removed.
Straights and runs have to consist of at least three cards, and the higher the number of cards, the higher your point total for that set. Straights are worth more than runs, same color combinations are worth more, and same-suit combinations even more again. Your point scoring also increases as you move up through the game ‘s levels.
You do all of this against the clock “ and if you get sloppy and try to discard an invalid set of cards, time is taken away.
There are only a few options you can set for the game “ sound effects on/off, the size of the game grid, and the difficulty level.
As I said above, I haven ‘t played Rummy too much (mainly poker and black jack for me if cards come out) “ so I am not very good at RummyBlast. Even on the lower dificulty settings, I just don ‘t seem to see patterns of cards as quickly as I pick out words in a word game, for example.
Despite my lack of skills, I enjoy the game a lot. It is fast-paced and more than challenging for me. I ‘d be interested to hear the views of any experienced Rummy players who give this game a shot, but my guess is that it ‘s good fun for novices an veterans alike.
One thing that would be nice to see added to RummyBlast is some sort of score-tracking system “ so you could measure your efforts against the game itself and / or others playing it.
You can find RummyBlast in the App Store now, priced at $0.99.
