SOPODS, creator of Full Screen Web Browser for the iPhone and the iPod Touch, has built an anti-piracy function in version 1.1.
The browser is since its launch sold more than 66,000 times. It is currently in the App Store Top 100 Paid Apps list in 10 countries and in the Top 20 Utilities in 23 countries (including the US). However, things didn’t quite go to plan for Ben Chatelain and SOPODS at first. Chatelain explained that within the first 30 hours of Full Screen Web Browser going on sale, pirated copies became available, and after this nearly 10% of the copies of the 1.1 version of Full Screen Web Browser being used globally, were cracked. He explained that this was obviously a major issue that needed resolving fast, and that current users of stolen copies of his Full Screen Web Browser would soon be disappointed.
SOPODS now detects whether the application is actually bought or stolen. In the last case, a notice is displayed and the browser quits. Its not the first time things like this happen, there are more developers who can apply such techniques.
We should’ve seen this one coming. If people keep hacking the planet, things get out of hand. Comment! Tell us what think about this!!
