Is Apple ever going to create a home gaming console to compete with the Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii? Why shouldn’t they? Apple’s App Store has created thousands upon thousands of great handheld games for the iPhone and iPod Touch. It only makes sense that they dip their toes into the game console market. Back in 1996, Apple designed the Pippin. This hideous attempt at a game console was only shadowed by the kings of the console market at the time, the Sony Playstation and Nintendo 64. With Apple’s “new” trendy look and feel, could they pull it off? I think they can and I hope they do. I would love to see a true mac style gaming interface incorporated into a game console.
Back in February of 2008, Apple did in fact extend its trademark to cover gaming products. This move by Apple was forgotten by many because of the iPhone and other Apple products. Of course, this trademark extension could have been to incorporate some game-like products and accessories for the iPhone and iPod touch, but who knows. We can’t forget about the possibility of a game console being released by them. We watched them enter the cell phone industry not so long ago; and what happened then?
