To get that firmer standing, they need to have more games for it, and more mac software that is exclusively for mac, and not for pcs that are more for things that the majority of the population would want like, a way to edit movies with special effects software like after effects or other software out there like Final Cut Pro. Plus, they need to have a long line-up of first party games for the console, in order to get sales going before they start releasing other games. They would also need to have several major developers like Bethesda Softworks, maybe Blizzard- if they got Blizzard, they would have a large fanbase from the people that play Warcraft and WoW, especially if they made a regular RPG version of WoW that has the option of internet play. Plus, if it had all the cuttting edge technologies like motion capture for controlling your character(s) on screen, then they would probably get sales. If they also did internet, and wi-fi play and things like that, more sales. If they programmed iTunes to it, then they made it so that you could download music onto it, like the xbox 360, and they charged the normal price per song and album, then they would make more money to maintain workers salary, and the amount of money it makes to produce each console unit. Games that they would probably have to get for it to get more people buying their consoles and games would be: World of Warcraft, Oblivion, Rock Band, any of the Star Wars games that arent lego, and other top games that people like.

Hope you liked my ridiculous runon comment.

However, I think that they have an opportunity to drastically increase sales of their IMAC consoles by means of console support. If Apple were to design the IMAC’s to support console connections and TV software that is more advanced then EYE TV then they could potentially double their sales. People want HD for their cable and they HD gaming without latency. I know many who would be more apt to shell out their hard earned money for a Mac that would be their all in one media source. It seems so obvious, it’s possible that they’re avoiding doing so because the console market are among some of their sole competitors. It still=happy customers and larger profit margins.

The longer answer is because the home gaming console market is a completely different beast than the portable gaming market.

Apple is having a hard time meeting the demand of the portable gaming market already.

Getting into the home gaming console market would be nuts.

The are not ready for a dedicated gaming system. They will continue with their Trojan approach as they have done with the iPods/iPhones
