Apple Confirms Some Recent Job Cuts

What’s the latest news in 2009 job cuts? Sources from Apple confirm that 50 salespeople were laid off last week for “business and economic” reasons. These 50 people include an entire sales group based in Austin, Texas and some workers in Cupertino, California. Ouch, right? Well the 50 people that were released from the company were given severance packages and the opportunity to apple for other jobs inside Apple. It really doesn’t make sense, why would Apple cut people’s jobs, then offer them new jobs with the same company? Apple’s 50 laid off workers is only a pinch compared to the over 5,000 jobs that Microsoft is going to have to cut. Will Apple withstand the recession and be able to glide through without cutting a massive amount of jobs? It seems like Apple is the right company to work for. It is possible that some Apple jobs may have gotten cut from the recent decline in sales of Macs due to the economy, but they’re not speaking of it. Apple did not have to report these job cuts to the Securities and Exchange Commission because it was only a small fraction of Apple’s workforce.
